Back in the days when Punk was pure and meant something, in the 60's, 80's and early to mid 90's, it was a protest against conformity, discrimination, and pop culture and modern pop music alike (example, boy bands and such garbage). In the late 90's and early 2000's we had trash like Good Charlotte, Alien Ant Farm, and Sum 41 calling themselves "punk" because they wore spike chains and talked about the downfall of conformity and pop culture...as their music videos were smeared all over MTV...

I reality, if you knew anything about punk "pop punk" can't even exist as it's a complete oxymoron.Term "Pop punk" = Power pop, alternative pop/rock, pick your poison: Blink 182, Eve 6, Sum 41, Good CharlottePunk and its branches = NOFX, Rancid, Guttermouth, old old Offspring, Screw 32, GOod Riddance, Propaghandi, The Ramones, Screeching Weasel, American Steel, Sex Pistols
