sump will act as a filter, just add mechanical filtration somewhere in the sump.

Everyone has a sump on thier tank, I think it's time I make one for mine. I'm upgrading to a 125 gallon, and have and empty 75 gal. tank I'll use as a sump. I wanted to build a refugium in the sump for mangroves, wherebouts should I place that? before or after the live rock? Does a sump act as the aquariums filter? or should I still have a have a hang on or canister filter?Gene

i am a engineer and most concrete is rated at 5000 psi so unless the surface area of the legs is greater than 5000 psi you will be with in limits. but i do advise on a tank above 200gal should have a metal stand. Made out of like 2x4 steel. The water in a 200 weighs 1700lbs and the tank its self probably 200. so you are looking at probably 2200 to 2400 depending on sump/filter setup plus the amount of live rock you use.dongt let this discourage you plenty of people have monster tanks (300+)

If its concrete floor it should be okay because they are design strong enough to hold a lot of weight as long as the weight isn't concentrate on one point there should be no problem.

I am not a structural engineer so I have no idea. |
